Local Sustainability Leader Helen Tandy Shortlisted for UK’s Net Zero 50 Awards

Eco Communities founder recognised among national sustainability leaders alongside Ed Miliband and Sadiq Khan

Helen Tandy, founder of Eco Communities and Head of Net Zero at Castlefield, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Net Zero 50 Awards, which recognise 100 of the UK’s most inspiring individuals driving progress towards a low-carbon future. The top 50 will be announced at a ceremony in the House of Lords on 28 November.

Helen’s nomination celebrates her leadership in helping both businesses and communities understand and act on climate change. Through her professional role as Partner at Castlefield Investment Partners as well as her main as Chartered & Ethical Financial Planner she leads the company’s Net Zero strategy, ensuring sustainable practices are embedded across the business. Outside of work, Helen dedicates her time to Eco Communities, the not-for-profit organisation she founded to support local action on climate, wellbeing and community engagement across Cheshire and beyond.

“It’s an honour to be recognised among such inspiring people working towards a sustainable future,” Helen said. “I’m passionate about showing that meaningful change can happen at every level — from local communities to financial institutions.”

Among those shortlisted alongside Helen are Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, and Jane Gaston, CEO of Net Zero North West.

The awards, organised by Digital Leaders in partnership with BusinessGreen, highlight the contributions of individuals who are helping the UK transition to Net Zero through innovation, leadership, and impact.

Helen was nominated for her work championing climate action both within her industry and at the grassroots level. She is also the only nominee from Cheshire West, reflecting her strong regional impact and commitment to community-driven sustainability.

“At Eco Communities, we focus on making sustainability practical and accessible,” Helen explained. “Whether it’s training, talks or supporting local climate initiatives, it’s all about empowering people and organisations to make real, lasting change.”
